Cast Iron
Cast iron is an alloy of iron, carbon, and silicon. It’s made by melting iron ore in a blast furnace to create pig iron. Any impurities like sand and rust are them removed before the the molten iron is poured into a highly accurate mould made of sand. Once the cast iron has cooled, the sand mould is broken away to reveal the finished piece. Cast iron is known for its durability making it ideal for making fireplaces.
